Wreck-It Ralph
INTRODUCE
Looking at first glance at the cover of Wreck-It Ralph, you see a bulky man in overalls with many other villains from video games behind him. This is the first thing that made me want to watch this movie. You can't make me go out and watch just any movie, the movies I watch are childish and have to set a spark inside of my heart. Not everyday do you get to watch a movie about a video game villain who wants to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero.
DESCRIBE
Ralph longs to be loved just like his games perfect good guy, Fix-It Felix; problem is, nobody loves a bad guy. But everyone loves heroes so when Ralph visits Hero's Duty, he sees his ticket to happiness and heroism. His main goal in this game is to win a medal but he soon wrecks everything and lets out a deadly enemy that threatens everyone. What is Ralph's only hope? Vanellope Von Schweetz, a young trouble making "glitch" from a candy coated cart racing game. She just might be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a good guy. The lead actor and voice of Ralph is John C. Reilly. He is better known from movies such as Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. His film break was a small role in a Vietnam war drama, Casualties of War. In the 90's he starred in Days of Thunder, Shadows and Fog, and What's Eating Gilbert. Reilly has been in plenty of dramatic and comedy related roles.
ANALYZE
Wreck-It Ralph is similar to many of John C. Reilly's previous movies. Reilly has been in comedy, family, and a couple of animated films. The only thing a little different about this movie was that this one was family friendly. He wasn't using foul language and telling disgusting jokes like in some of his other films such as Step Brothers. Wreck-It Ralph was important to many different audiences because of the video game Fix-It Felix. Fix-It Felix is an 80's arcade game so many adults were drawn into the movie theater, as well as children because it was animated and about video games. Here is a link to Fix-It Felix's Wikipedia page. http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Fix-It_Felix,_Jr.
INTERPRETATION
It is a great movie for showing the art in video games. Wreck-It Ralph is a great at explaining how large video games have become in today's society. Their target audience ranges from small children to adults who remember going to the arcade or playing Fix-It Felix. I wouldn't say Wreck-It Ralph has too many stereotypes. The only one that comes to mind is how the people in the arcade playing the games are portrayed. The girl is shown as nerdy with glasses.
EVALUATION
When deciding how I could evaluate this movie, I had trouble deciding what were obvious strengths and weaknesses. Although looking online at some critics and reviews, most would agree with me that it was a great movie all around. I can say Wreck-It Ralph was above Reilly's usual standards, even with him being a great actor, it is up there with one of his best movies, Step-Brothers. Some critics said "Wreck-It Ralph is a serious contender for the title of best animation of the year." I wasn't too found of a critic which said, "It's a cool game to be sure, but watching someone else play gets old after awhile." The critic obviously doesn't know what having an imagination is like. Let alone, it is a movie, not a video game. We watch movies, we play video games. Just because it is a movie about video games, it seemed as though this person was expecting to play a video game in the theater. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wreck_it_ralph/
ENGAGE
Wreck-It Ralph will be out on DVD March 5th, 2013 and of course I hope this move will be my next present I receive. I saw this movie in the previews before another movie in the theater, and was instantly excited. I then heard, from my friends, that it was very good, so I had to go see it.
SUMMARY
"When the game is over a new world comes to life." That's exactly what the movie is about! The arcade lights go out, the open sign turns closed, and Ralph goes to his pile of bricks and wonders what it would be like to be a hero. I think everyone wonders what it would be like to be a hero, that's why the movie is so touching. Ralph just wants to be loved how Felix is loved by everyone. I learned a lot more about the film from this critique such as who the voices of the characters were and what other films they have starred in. I also learned that some people do not get the main idea of the movie, and think it is a bad film just because it wasn't what they expected. John C. Reilly is a great actor and this is another great piece of work. I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen this movie to go see it, it will not disappoint. For starters, I love that you blogged about Wreck It Ralph. It is currently my favorite movie as of today. I love that you have the same views that I do about this heartwarming movie! Part of the analyze that I would want to add, is that this movie did so well in using the big named video games as cameos more than a main source a relating to the viewer. One good article of this movie is on IGN, a gaming website, that gives full praise to this movie’s glory. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/01/wreck-it-ralph-review
